The obesity rate is at an all time high in the US. In fact, according to a 2017 report by the Centers for Disease control, nearly 40% of adults in America are clinically obese.
One big contributor to obesity is a condition known as Metabolic Syndrome, which also causes high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high Body Mass Index (body fat percentage) and high cholesterol. Metabolic syndrome also causes heart disease, stroke and Type 2 Diabetes.
How CBD May Help You Lose Weight
Research indicates that CBD may improve and prevent Metabolic Syndrome from occurring. In fact, a study released in the American Journal of Medicine examined the correlation between CBD consumption and the symptoms of metabolic syndrome (high blood pressure, high BMI, elevated blood sugar, and unhealthy cholesterol levels) in 8,500 people aged 20-59. Compared with the 40% of American adults who suffer from metabolic syndrome, this survey of active CBD users reflected a much lower occurrence of metabolic syndrome at only 14%.
This occurs because CBD partially blocks the CB1 receptors found within the body that are primarily located on the nerve cells in the brain, spinal cord, spleen, white blood cells, endocrine gland and parts of the reproductive, gastrointestinal and urinary tracts. This blockage promotes appetite control, which often leads to weight loss or regulation. A similar 2018 study further supports CB1 receptor antagonism (partial blocking) as a viable tool for reducing appetite and controlling obesity. Yet another animal study from 2012 reflects that CBD intake reduced appetite in rats.
